Do I need a passport?
Yes, you need a valid original passport with at least 3 months left until expiration. We also suggest bringing a laminated color copy to carry around while in Costa Rica.
Is there a bank in town?
Yes, there is a bank and ATM in Nosara. The only card that is accepted for cash withdrawals has a Visa logo on it. Mastercard is NOT accepted.
Is there a doctor/pharmacy?
Yes, there a several qualified doctors in Nosara. There is also a pharmacy, but if you are taking medication for any existing ailments, we suggest you bring enough to last your entire vacation. Also, bring your medical insurance information card.
Is there internet access?
Yes, most hotels offer wireless internet service so bring your laptop, blackberry, iphone, etc.. If you don’t want to travel with your computer, there are several internet cafes that have service.
Do I need electrical adapters for my computer/electronics?
No, electrical outlets are the same as the U.S.
Is it safe for children/women?
Yes, very safe. The locals are very friendly and hospitable. One of the advantages of booking a package with NSA is that from the moment you arrive in Costa Rica you are part of local family that is very well respected in Nosara.
Are there any dangerous animals I need to worry about?
No, the only thing you need to worry about is if you charged the battery on your digital camera to take shots of monkeys, parrots, toucans, sloths, iguanas, turtles, dolphins, etc.
How far of a drive is it from the international airport to the surf school?
If you fly into Liberia Int’l Airport the drive is about 2.5-3 hours. If you arrive in San Jose Int’l Airport it is about 4-5 hours.
Can I fly into the surf school or do I have to drive?
You can fly or drive. There a several flights a day from both Liberia and San Jose to Nosara airport which is only a 10 minute drive to the surf school. If your international flight arrives later than the commuter flights to Nosara, you have the option of staying a night in a hotel and flying the following day or taking a taxi shuttle service that afternoon/night.
Do you accept credit cards or travelers checks?
Yes, the most widely accepted credit card is a Visa card. Some businesses may accept Mastercard and American Express. Travelers checks are difficult to use here because it takes so long for the banks to cash them, so cash is always the best way to go. Almost all businesses accept American dollars and it is very easy to exchange dollars for local currency. Just try to bring bills smaller than $100.
